Screamscape has gotten several reports and rumored "confirmations" that Thunderhawk and Dominator will be leaving for Michigan's Adventure and Kings Dominon. If these two coasters were removed from the park's line up would you all still visit the park? I've never been there but from the trip reports and their website it doesn't seem like there'd be too much to do if those are gone.
Disclaimer: Yeah it's screamscape, they're wrong most of the time but hey, you never know. Plus I wouldn't mind Dominator coming to Kings Dominon...it'd be nice _________________ 2009 - Thunder Canyon, Camp Snoopy, Magnum XL 200, Maverick

First of all, they wouldn't just shut down the park so soon after having spent millions on Wildwater Kingdom. However, if Dominator were to be removed, I would probably not return. Thunderhawk...I couldn't really care less seeing as it's a piece of crap. I would actually probably feel bad for the park that got it.
But, Dominator would be the last straw for me. It's already disappointing enough that X-Flight and Steel Venom are gone because I loved GL when they were there. And without Dominator, the only thing worth riding would be Big Dipper.
Let's just hope Screamscape is wrong, as usual. _________________ We'll be taking you over a mile of tubular steel track through Soak City, to the beach and back so sit up right, hold on tight and enjoy your ride on the record breaking, award-winning moly orange wonder, Magnum XL-200.

Actually, Screamscape is one of the most reliable rumor sites out there. More than once they have made even the "know-it-all" types at other prominant sites look like fools for ridiculing them.
As for this rumor, it wouldn't actually surprise me if that were to happen, as I think GL's days as any sort of major amusement park are almost over. I could see Wildwater Kingdom remain, and also them possibly moving other smaller rides to that side of the lake, and then sell the former ride section. That's probably the most economically viable idea at this point anyway.
If this were to happen, I would not be a happy camper if MiA got Thunderhawk out of that deal. Now if they got Dominator, that would be awesome, and actually draw me back to that place! However, as the rumors suggest, I imagine that Thuderhawk will land at MiA, which really stinks. KD is already a cool and viable amusement park, give them the crappier coaster, and actually help MiA out by giving them a new ride worth coming to the park for instead of a headache inducer! _________________ May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you, and give you His peace! |

GL selling a few rides doesn't really mean any kind of shutdown. Those of us that grew up with Geauga Lake and Sea World know that there is place for both smaller parks and larger parks -- MIA is severely in need of a few new attractions and if CF wants to off-load a couple rides that cost tremendous amounts of money to maintain at GL, then all the power to them.
Similarly, you might find that the sale of two rides at GL might be replaced with one new one that is more economical that CF is shifting from another park or building anew. Thunderhawk and Dominator are back to back in an area that can accomodate one ride easier than two. It was reclaimed swampland and is still all crowded in there. I can't imagine what the upkeep costs are.
GL grew up as a family-friendly attraction that didn't rely on coasters. People around Cleveland even today head to CP if they want coasters, GL if they want a fun day out knowing the thrills aren't as large.
GL is similar to MIA that it pulls from a more local crowd, and isn't really all that geared to pulling people in from Michigan or Pennsylvania...I can almost guarantee that Cedar Fair wants to pull those customers who make a once-a-year trip to Cedar Point, not Geauga Lake...there is room for both types of parks. You'll note that CF doesn't advertise MIA east of Battle Creek -- they want SE Michigan to go to Cedar Point as well.
Some of us will remember how exciting it was when GL got the Skyscraper scenic tower!

Six Flags caused the build up, I'm not at all shocked Cedar Fair wants to redestribute the rides to other parks and return GL to the family park. _________________ [On Dick Cheney's appearance] "That man must live exclusively on Cheesy Poofs and venom!" - Jello Biafra |

It's kind of what I was expecting all along, it will be only be a waterpark pretty soon I think. Who knows what they might do in the future, if they need more space at CP they might scale back Soak City and sell GL as the waterpark destination.
I could have gone a few weeks ago but I didn't bother, Dominator was the only thing worth bothering about and I've been a big floorless (Kraken) so it's nothing new, I just stayed at Breakers and got some sleep because the Theme Park Review midwest trip was fun but not good for sleep. _________________ Current Coaster Count: 405

Screamscape at one point said CP was getting dueling 500 foot B&M flyers for 2007.
I rest my case. _________________ I am a magnet for seagull crap at CP. |

Yeah, that's kind of what I was getting at. They have some really far fetched rumors sometimes and that's why I don't seriously consider anything I read from them until I've read it somewhere else, like here. _________________ We'll be taking you over a mile of tubular steel track through Soak City, to the beach and back so sit up right, hold on tight and enjoy your ride on the record breaking, award-winning moly orange wonder, Magnum XL-200.

Dominator, Thunderhawk, Raging Wolf Bobs, Head Spin, Texas Twister... Have all been assigned to have "no major maintenance" done on them. There have been contractors at the park looking at plans for "some rides" over the past couple weeks. _________________ -Maverick (circa-1999)

....and the strip mining continues!
Honestly though, returning GL to a small family park with just a couple of bigger coasters (Big Dipper, Double-Loop), a nice kids area, and a great water park, is not really such a bad idea at all. And like somebody else said, maybe then they would consider a nice B&M or Intamin Hyper to round out a smaller, less intense coaster collection. That strip along the lake where Dominator, Thunderhawk, and Raging Wolf Bobs are would work nicely! _________________ May the Lord bless you and keep you, may He make His face to shine upon you, and give you His peace! |

The removal of rides from GL might also be a great strategy from Cedar Fair. GL and CP are close to each other we already know. But are they too close? It might be hard to believe, especially with the state the park is kinda in right now, but it could be competing with Cedar Point. The relocations of the rides will probably boost the attendance of Cedar Fair parks that are recieveing them. _________________ 2008 Coaster Track Length: 120,089ft

Well I'm not a big visitor of Geauga Lake, but I do LOVE Dominater. But I just don't want to visit GL when Steel Venom and X-Flight are gone. Sorry for those who are large fans GL and live near the park, but I'm rooting for Dominater to be put over in Kings Dominion. I visit down there in Virigina almost every summer and if they put it there, it would make my trip to King's Dominion much better! _________________ Next Park Trip: Dorney Park
