October 27 didn't only signify the end of the 2002 Cedar Point season, but the departure of a grand old lady. The Schwabinchen ride, which was located behind the Coliseum Arcade, will be removed after the 2002 season to make room for improvements in the upcoming 2003 season. The ride was manufactured by Heinrich Mack and resembled a lady with a long skirt that was dancing to polish tunes. The riders would sit in seats on the edge of her dress as she rocked and spun in a dancing motion.
The Schwabinchen was originally added to the "Million-Dollar Midway" as part of the centennial improvements for the park in 1970. The "Million-Dollar Midway" was part an 800-foot addition to the midway, which is the midway where the Good Time Theatre and Wildcat roller coaster now reside. Other rides scheduled to open that year with the Schwabinchen would include the Dodgem, Bayern Kurve, Hully Gully, Himalaya, and the Monster.
The Schwabinchen would be later moved from the "Million Dollar Midway" to behind the Coliseum Arcade to replace the Rotor in 1985. Tucked away from much of the larger crowds, the ride would remain until its removal in after the 2002 season. According to park officials, more than 15 million guests have ridden the ride since its addition in 1970.
