This Saturday
will mark the one hundred and thirty-sixth opening of Cedar Point. Think
about that for a moment. Keep thinking …that is really impressive.
The year was
1870. The President was Ulysses S. Grant, who, by the way, just
wrapped up wining the Civil War five years earlier. John D.
Rockefeller incorporated Standard Oil. The first YMCA was formed. And,
of course, Cedar Point opened.
Well, one
hundred thirty years later, Grant is dead and Standard Oil is no more,
but the YMCA and Cedar Point remain. Why? Because in America, there is
nothing Americans like better than having a good time, relaxing,
sharing fun with family and being excited. Many people, many
organizations, many administrations have come and gone, yet Cedar
Point remains consistent.
This year is
another year for us to celebrate, and there is no better way to do so
than fireworks. There is so much to celebrate, maXair, Castaway Bay,
new games, 100 years of the Hotel Breakers, and we cannot forget all
the other great rides, shows, foods and memories that only Cedar Point
is able to produce. What a year!
This opening
day, take a moment; you too are part of history. You are what enable
Cedar Point to survive. Ride Dragster as many times as you can. Spin
on maXair until you get sick. Ride the train. Enjoy the air on the
Blue Streak. Take your friends, take your family! Cedar Point is truly
an American tradition.
What a year,
what a time, I am sure glad I’m here to see it. Enjoy the fireworks,
for it’s not just us celebrating Cedar Point, but Cedar Point
celebrating us.
One hundred
thirty-six years. Wow. Let’s hope the next one hundred thirty are just as
good. See you all on the Midways. Happy Opening Day!
