Millennium Force Cable Break
Complete coverage from The Point OnlineMillennium Force
Millennium Force, the tallest roller coaster in North America at 310 ft., had a cable break during testing on Sunday, September 2nd. Thirty employees were stranded on the ride for over one hour and were finally brought down by a maintenance vehicle that can travel up the right side of the ride. The coaster utilizes a prototype elevator lift to quickly get its trains up the mammoth hill and had been monitored for several days leading up to the break because of fraying in the cable. Sunday was the first day Millennium Force had been down for an entire day since its opening in May of 2000. The ride has no exact date of reopening, but we expect it to open in time for Cedar Point's Millennium Mania which will take place later this week. Many television stations have been covering this story, and The Point Online will keep you update on what is going on with the number one ranked coaster in the world.
