Mike's Message - Satellite View of Cedar Point

December 10, 2005

Hello everyone!  I first would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from The Point Online.

I also would like to tell everyone that we are still working on some new stuff for the site, along with a couple major projects to debut in the next few months.  We have so much going on right now, we are actually looking for another Staff Member.  For more information visit CPForums.com.

Microsoft has debuted Local Live. Now I'm not really sure what its purpose is, but I do know it offers some incredible view points of Cedar Point.  Its not everyday you can look at Cedar Point from a satellite, from four different views (North, East, South, and West).  Its a pretty cool thing Microsoft has going for it.

It is fun to look at all of the "behind the scene" areas, where no one is allowed to go, such as the bone yard.  Here some basic instructions on how to use Local Live.  There are three different types of maps, Road, Aerial, and Bird's Eye.  The cool one is Bird's Eye.  You can switch between these on the top left corner.  Below the types of map is a compass. This controls which way you are looking.  Next to this is the zoom.  The small building is zoomed out, while the big one is zoomed in.  To move around on the map (for Firefox) just click and hold, move the mouse, and let go.  You then can move around the map.

Here are some of my favorite views of the park.  I especially enjoy looking south at the park, as it really offers a different view.

South View of Frontier Town/Boneyard/Mean Streak

North View of Millennium Force/Frontier Town/MF Island

East View of Magnum/Soak City/Gemini

South View of Top Thrill Dragster/Mantis/ Iron Dragon

East View of Hotel Breakers/Top Thrill Dragster

East View of maXair Construction/Wicked Twister/Raptor

Have fun with Local Live!  Be sure to read our Blog, sign up for the newsletter, and register at CPForums.com!
