Opening Weekend has come and gone, and The Point Online
Filled the Frisbee (well, at least 36% anyway). So, here is a
photo essay of what is new in 2005! Here are links to some of
our galleries in which you can view more photos.

Obviously, maXair is the biggest new
thing at Cedar Point in 2005. The ride is smooth, fun, and
thrilling (but NOT spinney!). If you want a review of the ride, please
head on over to the good folks at
NBC24 -
Toledo's Weather Station, for a video of Rob Packard and I on
maXair.
Next
to maXair is one of the largest non-ride investments I've seen at
Cedar Point in a long time. The new games area put in looks
fantastic, especially when compared to last years look. The
investment of bright lights, colors, and special effects will pay off
quickly for Cedar Point as it will bring in many new customers to play
the games. If your favorite game was Hi-Striker, then you need to head
back towards the Gemini, as it replaced the Rock Wall.

Coaster enthusiasts favorite improvement
this year is the painting of Magnum. The popular coaster got a
fresh coat of paint over the off-season. Unfortunately, the
whole ride was not finished and the pretzel turn still is unpainted.
There is no word on when the painting will resume on the coaster.
For
the railroad lovers, the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad received new
crossing signals. The signals flash and make noise when the
gates are down and will help better notify people when the gates are
lowering. We believe that this is something that you should
experience at Cedar Point as it is apart of the fun, therefore photos
are our only medium of this new addition.

The Sky Ride completed its overhaul of
both of its stations. Now both stations have the blue paint with
yellowish trim. The completed look adds more color to the area
and the two stations now compliment each other again. Sky Ride
Refreshments also received new condiment machines.
There
are several new changes in the Merchandise Department of the park.
Along with a new Director, Discount Depot replaced the Emporium in
Frontier Town. At Discount Depot, everything in the store is 35%
off the shown price, so if you are looking to save
some money on a souvenir, Discount Depot is the place to go.
Amazing Photos was replaced by a Tattoo location. Kaman's Art
Shoppe's on the Main Midway by Dodgem's also received permanent
buildings instead of just umbrellas.

New banners on the Cedar Point Sign
welcomed visitors to a new and exciting season at Cedar Point.

At the end of Opening Day, there was a
celebration. The Point Online was there; in three different
locations to be exact. The fireworks display celebrated 100
years of the Hotel Breakers along with a new season. If you
missed the show, check out our fireworks gallery, as we have complete
coverage.
