Cedar
Point Press Release
SANDUSKY, Ohio, July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point is known
around the world for its thrilling rides, but the historic
amusement park on Lake Erie will take the excitement to a
whole new level when high-wire-walker Nik Wallenda will walk
across the cable of the Sky Ride on Sunday, July 26.
As one of 13 stops of Nik Wallenda's "Walk Across America"
tour, the unbelievable feat will take place along Cedar
Point's Main Midway at 5 p.m. The seventh-generation
high-wire performer will attempt to walk a 340-foot stretch
of the Sky Ride on a cable that is only slightly thicker
than an inch in width and more than nine stories above the
ground. He will do this without a safety net, safety wire or
harness.
Nik Wallenda is no stranger to these kinds of death-defying
stunts. Known as "King of the Hire Wire," Wallenda began his
career when he was only 4 years old and has completed
hundreds of similar walks. He has earned two Guinness World
Records, one for the longest distance, and most recently,
for the greatest height ever traveled on a high wire by
bicycle, set in October 2008.
Built in 1961 and located above the Main Midway, the Sky
Ride provides passengers with scenic views of the park, Lake
Erie and the landscaped gardens below. (The ride will be
closed on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26 in preparation for
Wallenda's walk.)
This exciting feat will be the grand finale of the park's
three-day Christmas in July celebration that will begin on
Friday, July 24. The special event will also include an
opportunity to give back to the community by donating a new
toy to the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign. Each
gift-giver will receive a coupon good for a $29.99 one-day
admission ticket to Cedar Point, valid only that day. Santa
will also be at the park to meet all of the good girls and
boys.
