Rumors of the Road - Issue 1

Welcome to the first edition of "Rumors of the Road" on your source for Cedar Point information, The Point Online presented by me, Sgt. RoadKill. Most of you know me from The Point Online forums. Some of you may remember when I wrote for Portal to the Point. Then I wrote a few articles for Point Mania. Now I am writing for a site I have been involved with for quite some time. Most of you know me as a moderator on the forums here. Some of you might not get to the boards much and wonder who in the world I am. Well I’m not here to tell you about my personal life so you can check out my profile on the forums for that or message me on AOL Instant Messenger. This is how things are going to go; about every other week I will be making an article that discusses some of the hottest rumors on the web and breaking them down to help you understand them better. So come on, hitch a ride and prepare for the most exciting rumors article on the web.

As some of you know I have been following the progress of Top Thrill Dragster for some time now. I wrote a couple articles about it when we referred to it as "Area 51" back last summer. Even though opening day was on May 4 we still have some rumors circulating around the net about the ride. I’ll be discussing the most interesting one I have come upon which has sparked some interest on the boards. Whatever happened to the missing car off of each of the Dragster trains? Will they ever put the extra car back on the trains? What caused them to modify the train setup? Hopefully with the information in the following paragraphs you can come to a conclusion. I am not here to tell you why, I am here to give you the rumors and let you, the reader, decide.

After Xcelerator, Dragster’s younger sister, the trains that would be put on Top Thrill Dragster were designed so the G-Forces that are experienced on the far back seat and on the front seat wouldn’t be a problem. If you look at the train on Top Thrill Dragster notice that there are no seats at the very front of the train or at the very rear of the train. Could this be part of the engineering experience they got out of Xcelerator to keep the G-Forces down?

Recently as noted on the boards by several members the number of cars on each train has been reduced from five to four. The reason so far has been unclear but people have come up with different explanations. The rumors have been that the train would be too heavy with people for it to make it over the top hat at a smooth enough pace to keep a consistent launch structure with few rollbacks. There has been a rumor saying that the launch is too powerful but didn’t go into saying for what reasons. Whatever the reason it is for the shortening of the trains it goes back to the G-Force problem most likely. The G-Forces could be too intense whether they are the positive G’s to get the train up to 120mph or the lateral G’s that would be experienced on the top hat. There are also many other problems that could have occurred to cause the reduction of cars per train. Whatever the problem is we’ll eventually find out. If you want please leave me your feelings about what is going on with this whole matter. Just send me a private message or the forums or feel free to e-mail me.

No matter what caused the change it might not be permanent. As with any new roller coaster that opens there are setbacks that cause problems. All of the coasters at Cedar Point have new features that have never been seen before. These coasters aren’t full prototypes but they do contain prototypical parts. Could this be part of the reason for the change of the train? Yes, and could it be solved within this season? I’m sure Cedar Point is working as hard as they can to get this problem solved. Wicked Twister had its problems last year as well so I believe there is nothing to be worried about on this coaster.

It’s time to end this edition of Rumors of the Road. Please if you have any information you want discussed in an article let me know. I try to write about the rumors that bring the most interest to us all. I thank you all for spending your time reading this article. Let me know what you think, I’m open to ideas. Just don’t tell me to break my wrist because I’ve already done that yesterday. Until next time, if you hear any interesting rumors being discussed on the net you’ll probably see it discussed on the next edition of Rumors of the Road. Thanks again for coming and may God bless everyone of you.
