VertiGo
VertiGo, the
pay-per-ride slingshot ride built in July/August 2001, was victim to
one of its three 265 ft. towers collapsing around 3:30 PM on Monday,
January 15th 2002. This was caused by
Vortex Shredding on one of the towers. 200 feet of the 265
foot tower broke off and caused no damage to the surrounding area. S&S
Power, the company who built the ride, as well as Cedar Point's Power
Tower, investigated the problem. Also involved were third party
engineering firms and the Ride Safety Department of the Ohio
Department of Agriculture. VertiGo was located in Cedar Point's
Challenge Park, an area located outside the park that contains extra
charge admission rides.
