Strategy Guides: How to Save Money at Cedar Point

How to Save Money at Cedar Point

Updated June 2009

Introduction
The fact of the matter is, Cedar Point, or any other amusement park, can be very expensive to go to for one day, but Cedar Point is doing a great job to ensure the park is affordable for everyone. There are several ways to make going to Cedar Point more economical, and The Point Online will show you in this strategy guide. Be sure to check out our Travel page for brochures and other local information.

Sandusky Discount Hotels

Did you know The Point Online's Travel Reservation System GUARANTEES the lowest hotel rate in Sandusky? We're the largest Cedar Point fan site and process a huge number of hotel reservations each year passing the savings on to you. Start your hotel search at our Sandusky Discount Hotel page.

Cedar Point Discount Tickets
Since we are in the business of saving money, let's start with saving you a bundle of money on your tickets. If you are an AAA member, you can save over $10 a pop per adult ticket by purchasing them at your local AAA bureau. Even if you aren't a member, several Sandusky area grocery stores sell discounted tickets (Meijer/Tops; US Route 250) during the summer months. In previous years, you could even buy specially marked Pepsi cans in May and June and save $10-$15 at the gate (not valid on Saturdays). You can usually pick these cans up at a gas station on your way in. You can also get a whole book of coupons good for discounts such as $10 off regular admission, buy one Starlight admission get one free, and many others by visiting cedarpoint.com and requesting a Getaway Guide. For the latest discount tickets, be sure to see our Discount Ticket page.

Food/Beverages

No matter what entertainment venue you are attending, food can add up quickly and become expensive. Cedar Point offers a wide variety of food choices and reasonable prices can be found. First off, eat a big breakfast before arriving. Stop at a fast food location on the way to park, eat some cereal, anything to give you energy for the day. Take advantage of the picnic pavilions located at the front of the park and use them for dinner, not lunch. Grills are available throughout the pavilions. You don't want to double back throughout the park for your packed lunch, so plan your day wisely not to keep on going over your tracks. Start in the back of the park early and work your way forward to avoid the crowds and avoid using too much energy. By eating breakfast and dinner outside the park, that leaves lunch and some snacks that need to be bought.

Souvenirs
Cedar Point has a great selection of souvenirs. Although tee shirts and sweatshirts can be expensive, key chains, water bottles, and other small novelties are reasonably priced. Another cheap souvenir is a large souvenir map which will only set you back $1, and is a great memento of your trip. For a simple souvenir the entire family will enjoy, try a ride photo. Individual photos are available for $9, and packages with multiple copies are available for under $20.

Other things to mention
If you choose to dine at Cedar Point, why not leave the park's gates and go to one of the many out of park, but on-peninsula full service restaurants. There is a list of these restaurants in your Fun Guide map on arrival at Cedar Point!
